A Straightforward Look at Invisalign at Frenchtown Smiles

Invisalign in Monroe MI is one of the more common questions we get from adults and teens who want straighter teeth without metal brackets. The short version: Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable trays to move teeth a little at a time. You wear each tray for about a week or two, then swap it for the next one. Dr. Kyle Lambert and Dr. Danevin Putrus handle the planning and check-ins right here at our dental office in Monroe, MI, so you’re not bouncing between offices.

Most patients who ask about it fall into a few groups. Adults who had braces as a kid and watched their teeth shift back. Parents whose teen wants something less obvious than wires. Folks getting ready for a wedding, a reunion, or just tired of looking at the same crowded front tooth in the mirror. All of them get the same plain answers from us about what aligners can and can’t do.

We’re not going to talk you into treatment you don’t need. If your bite is mostly fine and one tooth is bugging you, sometimes bonding or a different option makes more sense. We’ll say so. If aligners are the right call, we’ll walk through the timeline, the cost, and what your insurance will and won’t cover before you commit.

How Invisalign Actually Moves Your Teeth

Each aligner is a thin, custom-made tray that fits snugly over your teeth. It’s shaped slightly differently than the position your teeth are in right now. That small difference is what applies gentle pressure and nudges teeth toward where they should be. When you switch to the next tray in the series, the pressure shifts again, and the process repeats.

For most adult cases we see in Monroe, the full series runs somewhere between six and eighteen months. Simpler cases (one or two crowded teeth, mild relapse from old braces) move faster. Bigger bite corrections take longer. Teens often fall in the middle. At your consultation we scan your teeth with a digital scanner, no traditional impression material involved, and you’ll see a preview of how your teeth are expected to move.

Some cases need small tooth-colored attachments bonded to a few teeth. These act like handles the aligners grip onto for trickier movements. They come off when treatment ends. We’ll tell you up front if your plan calls for them so nothing’s a surprise at the fitting appointment.

Who's a Good Fit for Clear Aligners (and Who Isn't)

Invisalign works well for crowding, spacing, mild to moderate bite issues, and relapse after previous orthodontic work. If you can commit to wearing the trays 20 to 22 hours a day, you’re already most of the way there. The trays come out for meals, coffee, and brushing. They go back in for everything else, including sleep.

It’s a reasonable option for teens too, as long as the permanent teeth are mostly in and the patient is responsible about wearing the trays. Some teen aligners include small blue compliance indicators that fade with wear, which gives parents a quiet way to check without nagging. If your teen is the type who’ll lose them in a school cafeteria every other week, traditional braces might be the steadier path. We’re happy to compare both honestly at the consultation. There’s more on that on our page about Invisalign vs Braces.

Aligners aren’t the right tool for every case. Severe bite problems, significant jaw discrepancies, or teeth that need to be rotated dramatically sometimes do better with brackets and wires or a combined approach. If we look at your scan and think you’d get a better result somewhere else, we’ll say that too. No sense starting a year of treatment that won’t get you where you want to go.

What's Included When You Start Invisalign With Us

Treatment starts with a consultation and digital scan. We look at your teeth, your bite, and any existing dental work, then map out a plan. You’ll see roughly how many trays the case calls for and how long it should take. If you decide to move forward, your aligners are manufactured and ship to our office, usually within a few weeks.

At the fitting appointment we place any attachments needed, hand you your first sets of trays, and show you how to put them in and take them out. From there you’ll come in every six to ten weeks for a quick check so we can confirm teeth are tracking the way they should. Most of these visits are short. If something isn’t moving as planned, we adjust. That’s the whole point of seeing the same dentists who started the case.

When the active trays are done, retainers keep everything in place. Teeth want to drift, especially in the first year, so wearing retainers as directed is part of the deal. We make ours in-house and replace them when they wear out. You can read more about that on our Retainers page.

Paying for Invisalign and What Insurance Usually Covers

Orthodontic coverage varies more than almost any other category of dental benefits. Some plans include a lifetime orthodontic maximum that applies to aligners the same way it would to braces. Others cover orthodontics only for dependents under a certain age. A few don’t include it at all. We accept Delta Dental, Cigna DPPO, and Healthy Kids Dental among other plans, and our front desk will check your specific benefits before you commit.

If you’d rather see the pricing side laid out before the consultation, our Cost of Invisalign page walks through what goes into the fee and the financing options we offer. We can also split treatment into monthly payments through third-party financing for patients who’d rather spread it out.

Either way, you’ll get a written estimate before anything starts. No mystery balance showing up in the mail three months in. If you want the broader rundown of how we handle plans and paperwork, our Dental Insurance page covers it.

Why Patients Around Monroe Stick With Invisalign

The obvious draw is appearance. The trays are clear, and most people you talk to during the day won’t notice them. For adults who didn’t want to spend a year in metal brackets for a work photo or a daughter’s wedding, that matters. For teens, it means yearbook pictures and homecoming without a mouthful of wires.

The practical draw is hygiene. Because the trays come out, you brush and floss the way you always have. No threading floss under archwires, no food caught in brackets after lunch. Cleanings stay simpler, which matters when you’re already coming in twice a year for the rest of your Family Dentistry needs.

And because we’re a full-service practice, anything that comes up during treatment (a small cavity, a chipped edge, a question about whitening once the trays are off) gets handled in the same building by people who already know your case. That’s the part most patients tell us makes the difference.
