Restorative Dentistry in Monroe, MI
Fillings, crowns, root canals, bridges, and the repair work that comes with real life. Handled in-house by the same team that already knows your name.
Putting Teeth Back Together, Close to Home
Restorative Dentistry in Monroe MI covers the work that fixes what’s already broken: a cavity from a back molar you couldn’t quite reach, a crown on a tooth that cracked on an ice cube, a root canal on a tooth that’s been bothering you since spring. At Frenchtown Smiles, we do all of it under one roof, with Dr. Kyle Lambert and Dr. Danevin Putrus splitting the load so families aren’t being shuffled across town for a second opinion or a referral.
Most people don’t grow up dreaming about dental work. They show up because something hurts, or something looks off, or the hygienist spotted a soft spot at a cleaning. That’s normal. Our job is to tell you what’s actually going on, in plain English, and give you options that fit your mouth and your budget.
We see patients from Monroe, Woodland Beach, Frenchtown Township, Detroit Beach, Newport, and LaSalle. A lot of them have been coming here for years. A few of them used to be the six-year-olds in the chair and are now bringing their own kids. That history shapes how we work.
What Restorative Work Actually Looks Like at Frenchtown Smiles
Restorative dentistry isn’t one procedure. It’s the whole category of treatments that repair or replace teeth that have been damaged by decay, fracture, wear, or loss. Some of it is small. Some of it is bigger. Most of it is routine for us.
The day-to-day list includes tooth-colored fillings for cavities, crowns for teeth that are too far gone for a filling, bridges to span a gap where a tooth is missing, and root canal therapy when decay or injury has reached the nerve. We also handle dentures and partials, and when a tooth needs to be replaced from the root up, we do dental implants here too.
Two dentists on staff means you get two sets of eyes when something is borderline. If Dr. Lambert isn’t sure whether a tooth needs a crown or can hold a large filling for another year, Dr. Putrus is across the hall. We talk about cases. That’s part of why we like working together.
How We Decide What a Tooth Needs
A lot of restorative decisions come down to how much healthy tooth is left. A small cavity in an otherwise solid molar is a filling. A tooth that’s lost a cusp, has an old filling taking up half of it, and is cracking at the margin is usually a crown. A tooth with an infection at the root either needs root canal therapy or it needs to come out. That’s the honest framework.
We use digital X-rays and a careful exam to figure out which category a tooth falls into. If something can wait and watch, we’ll tell you. If it can’t, we’ll tell you that too, and we’ll explain why. No scare tactics, no urgency that doesn’t match the actual situation.
When a tooth is already gone, the conversation shifts to replacement. A bridge uses the teeth on either side as anchors. An implant stands on its own and doesn’t ask the neighbors to do extra work. Dentures and partials make sense in other situations. We walk through the trade-offs based on what’s in your mouth, not what’s most profitable to recommend.
What's Included in a Restorative Visit
Most restorative appointments start the same way: a look at the tooth, an X-ray if we don’t have a recent one, and a short conversation about what you’ve been feeling. Sensitivity to cold, pain on biting, a rough edge your tongue keeps finding, food packing in a certain spot. Small details point us in the right direction.
From there, the visit depends on the work. Fillings are usually a single appointment. Crowns and bridges typically take two visits, with a temporary in between. Root canal therapy is often one or two appointments depending on the tooth. We numb thoroughly, we check in often, and we don’t rush through the part where you’re getting comfortable.
If you’re nervous, say so. We’re not going to talk you out of it or pretend it’s not a real feeling. We can adjust the pace, walk through each step before it happens, or talk about sedation options if the work is bigger. Most people are surprised by how uneventful these appointments end up being.
Insurance, Estimates, and Paying for Restorative Work
Restorative work is one of the places where insurance actually does something useful. Most PPO plans cover a meaningful share of fillings, crowns, and root canals once you’ve met your deductible, and we’re in-network with a wide range of plans including Delta Dental, Cigna DPPO, and Healthy Kids Dental for children.
Before we start any larger treatment, our front desk will run the numbers. You’ll know roughly what insurance is expected to pay, what your portion looks like, and whether there’s a benefit to spacing treatment across two calendar years. If you’d rather see a written estimate before you commit, ask. That’s a normal request, not a hassle.
For patients without insurance, or for treatment that goes past what a plan covers, we can talk through financing so a crown or a root canal isn’t a decision you have to make in a single afternoon. More on the practical side is on our dental insurance page.
Why Restorative Care Is Worth Doing Sooner Than Later
Teeth don’t heal themselves. A small cavity becomes a bigger one. A bigger cavity reaches the nerve. A nerve problem becomes a root canal or an extraction. Each step up that ladder costs more time, more money, and more tooth. Catching things early is almost always the cheaper path, even when it doesn’t feel urgent.
Restorative work also keeps the rest of your mouth functioning. A missing molar shifts the teeth around it. A cracked tooth changes how you chew, which changes how the other teeth wear. Fixing one thing protects the things next to it. That’s a quieter benefit, but it’s a real one.
And there’s the day-to-day part. Eating without flinching. Smiling in a photo without thinking about it. Not having that one tooth in the back of your mind every time you drink something cold. The work is worth doing for that alone.
